Welcome to Michael Wood Counselling & Psychotherapy — compassionate counselling in the heart of the Scottish Borders.

Whether you are dealing with age-old difficulties or would like to work through specific problems that have only recently arisen, I believe that it is being in a warm, empathic, real relationship that heals. I offer a therapeutic relationship that values you and your experiences and in which you can explore your problems, become unstuck, and grow. This includes working through:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Trauma

  • Bereavement

  • Self-esteem issues

  • Dislocation/disenchantment

  • Pervasive/obsessive compulsive thoughts and behaviours

Based in Melrose, in the heart of the Scottish Borders, I’m a fully qualified psychodynamic counsellor and psychotherapist, offering my services to adults (i.e., aged 18 and above). I am curious, open-minded, and compassionate, and have over a decade of experience facilitating both individuals and groups across a number of settings, including education, music and theatre, and, of course, counselling. As a counsellor and psychotherapist, I have worked with a range of people from a number of backgrounds and age groups experiencing diverse difficulties.

I am always open to meeting new people and finding how I can best form a healing relationship with them. If you believe you could benefit from working with me, whether in person or online, please get in touch.

“Fortunately, the human psyche, like human bones, is strongly inclined towards self-healing. The psychotherapist’s job, like that of the orthopaedic surgeon’s, is to provide the conditions in which self-healing can best take place.”

— John Bowlby
